:Me: Staying at a friend’s house again. Probably for a few days. I need some time away.

Nerves bounce around in my belly as I wait for Jude’s response. To pass the time, I start my bedtime routine.

Soon, the phone vibrates, and I snatch it off the counter, eagerly swiping through to my message with Jude. But the incoming text isn’t from him:

:Crow: You’re welcome.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Jude never responded. Not last night at least. Whatever Porter had said to him may have been exacerbated by the fact that I decided to stay away for a while.

Part of me hopes that while I’m gone, he’ll get to the bottom of what’s going on under his nose on his own. Surely he can find the truth on paper, somewhere. Or discover the deceitfulness of both his sister and best friend with his own eyes — learn that no one can be trusted, not even blood.

Maybe that makes me a coward.

No… that definitely makes me a coward.

And like all good cowards do, I push the thoughts far far away.

When Trenton, Hayes, and I finally emerge from Trenton’s room, the couch where Crow had been sleeping is empty. I deflate a little. It’s not hard to admit that I had hoped he would still be here. Heck, I even entertained the idea of him sneaking into Trenton’s room last night. Or… me sneaking out.

Not that I wanted to sneak away from those guys. Nor that they would allow it to happen.

Even though Trenton sleeps hard, Hayes doesn’t.

One thing they definitely have in common, though, is their stamina. Eventually, if we’re in this for the long haul, a discussion will need to be had. I am not entirely sure my body can keep up this honeymoon stage forever.

At one point, I had woken up to use the restroom, and when I got back, Hayes pulled me down for a super-early-morning romp.

Trenton slept through the whole thing which, to be honest, was a turn-on in and of itself. Everything with them is a turn-on. But having Hayes clasp his hand around my mouth to muffle my wails while slamming into me… Whew.

I’m well aware he and Trenton prefer to play together. And I love it, of course. But it also reminded me that Hayes has yet to have me by himself. Something I intend on remedying eventually. Sooner, rather than later, hopefully.

I pad into the kitchen and hop onto the counter to watch Hayes do his thing with the coffee science kit. Baggy sweats, big shirt — I’ll never understand why he hides all those yummy muscles.

Add those glasses and that messy hair into the mix, though, and it doesn’t matter what he’s wearing. He has this smart-guy charm about him. The fact that he is a beast in the bedroom makes his whole persona package even hotter.

My eye-fucking is brought to an abrupt end when Trenton pops into my personal space — one that I am most definitely not opposed to sharing with him.
